I have been to Reggae Sumfest and can say that it is more than just an event. It is a trip into the heart and soul of Jamaica that changes you. This piece is about my experience at Reggae Sumfest. When you get to Montego Bay, the trip starts.

People love the city’s beautiful beaches, lively nightlife, and long past. Before the event, I used the time to get to know the city better by going to local markets, trying real Jamaican food, and taking in the island’s sights and sounds. There was an air of excitement everywhere I went. Both locals and tourists were getting ready for Sumfest, and the joy was palpable.

It’s a huge building with cutting-edge music and lighting systems that make sure every show is a sensory experience. There are smaller stages, food courts, bars, and product booths all around the main stage, which all add to the festival’s lively vibe.

It felt like I was in a different world when I first walked into the building. You could feel the energy, and the air was buzzing with excitement. People were happy, laughing, and dancing everywhere I looked. This told me right away that this event would be different from any other.

One of the most-anticipated parts of Reggae Sumfest is without a doubt Dancehall Night. No other night has as much energy as this one, when some of the biggest names in reggae perform exciting sets. I really looked forward to this night because I like the theme, and it did not let me down.

People in the crowd were really excited as they waited for the show to begin. The crowd cheered and the lights went down as the first act took the stage. The crowd moved to the beat of his music and sang along with every word as he took the stage. Though it was less tense than the night before, the energy was still very strong. People can connect with reggae music, and it was clear that the crowd moved together as one because of the music.

Chronixx and Koffee, two singers who reflect the new generation of reggae, also put on great shows at Reggae Night. There was a great mix of current and traditional reggae sounds in their shows, and the crowd went crazy for them. Reggae Night showed how powerful reggae music is and how it can always inspire, encourage, and bring people together.

I really liked the jerk chicken because it had a great smoky, spicy flavour and the meat was very soft. The spices, the grilling, and the wood used for cooking all worked together to make a flavour that was strong and fulfilling. The curry goat and the fresh fish were two other meals that were just as tasty and showed off Jamaica’s rich culinary history.

Of course, there were also lots of sweets to enjoy along with the savoury meals. This is a classic Jamaican treat called rum cake. It is made with dried fruits that have been soaked in rum and spices. It was a great way to end a meal because the cake was rich, moist, and full of flavour.

There were themes of Rastafarianism, nature, and music in many of the pieces that showed Jamaica’s culture and past. I couldn’t help but buy some things to remember my trip by, like a necklace made of hand-carved wood and a picture of a Rastafarian leader in bright colours.

People didn’t just buy these as gifts; they were a way to connect with the people and spirit of Jamaica. They were all unique and told a story. I felt lucky to be able to take a piece of that story home with me.
